AUDIO 👇: Ghana Publishing fights revenue leakages through crackdown on fake gazettes

ACCRA, Ghana, 2nd November: The Ghana Publishing Company Limited has intensified efforts to clamp down on the circulation of fake gazettes, which management says have contributed to revenue losses through the activities of unauthorised middlemen.

Managing Director of the company, Nana Kwasi Boaitey Esq., disclosed this during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency.

He explained that some individuals, popularly known as ‘goro boys’, allegedly collect money from unsuspecting customers under the pretext of securing gazettes on their behalf.

According to him, these individuals subsequently purchase gazettes from the company, author documents themselves and present them to customers as though they were officially issued by the Ghana Publishing Company.

He said such practices not only expose customers to fraudulent transactions but also deprive the company of revenue that should legitimately accrue to it.

Mr. Boaitey indicated that management identified the practice as one of the loopholes affecting the company’s financial position when it assumed office in February 2025.

To address the problem, the company embarked on a public education and media campaign to warn Ghanaians against fake gazettes and encourage customers to access its services through authorised channels.

He said the intervention has helped block revenue leakages associated with the activities of the middlemen.

The Managing Director also disclosed that the company had introduced an electronic gazette platform that allows customers to apply for gazettes online without physically visiting its offices.

He explained that the digital platform forms part of broader efforts to improve customer experience, promote transparency and make the company’s services more accessible.

Mr. Boaitey urged the public to use the company’s official channels when applying for gazettes to avoid falling victim to fraudulent intermediaries.

He maintained that management would continue implementing measures to protect the integrity of official government publications and safeguard the company’s revenue.
