The Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Haruna Mohammed, has presented relief items to students affected by a fire outbreak at the Ahafo Mim Senior High School.
The incident, which occurred on July 13, 2026, destroyed part of the girls’ dormitory and displaced dozens of students.
The relief package included 80 mattresses, 80 blankets, cups and other essential items to support the affected students and help them return to normal school life with minimal disruption.
Speaking during the presentation, the Asunafo North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Joseph Akparibo, said he immediately engaged the Member of Parliament following the incident to explore ways of supporting the affected students.
He explained that after assessing the extent of the damage, the Assembly and the MP agreed to secure the relief items through the GETFund Emergency Fund.
According to the MCE, although 77 students were directly affected by the fire, the decision was taken to provide 80 mattresses and 80 blankets to ensure that there would be adequate supplies to meet the needs of all the victims.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, the Asunafo North Municipal Education Director, Mr. Samuel Jatong Laar, commended the Municipal Assembly and the Member of Parliament for their swift response to the students’ plight.
He encouraged the affected students, particularly the girls, to remain focused on their education and not allow the unfortunate incident to derail their academic ambitions.
Mr. Laar also advised the students to remain vigilant against exploitation and to continue working hard to achieve their educational goals despite the setback.
Some of the affected students expressed appreciation to the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament and other stakeholders for the timely intervention.
They said the support had brought them relief and renewed hope following the fire outbreak, and pledged to remain committed to their studies as they recover from the incident.
