The reality confronting the country and laws enforcement agencies to put into effect the laws that have to do with religious prophecies is very difficult to decouple these statements which carries warning, inspiration and direction.
There is no law that can be used to cause any arrest of the number of prophecies coming from the pulpits on the 31st December 2023 watch night.
Though, the Inspector General of Police insisted that the right to practice faith and freedom of speech as guaranteed by the constitution are subject to respect for the rights and freedoms of others and the public.
There is a need for the law enforcement agencies to speak to the conscience of the clergy to be circumspect on the issues they raised, though some of the messages can be true, inadvertently some of the prophecies can be false.
The Security, Fraud Expert and Consultant Richard Kumadoe said this on Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor 92.3 FM hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.
He is of the view that some of these declarations are not coming from God. The temptation of some these religious leaders sometimes seeks and aligned to political parties makes calls and statements to win the hearts and minds of their political leaders and their pay masters.
He further stated that, some of these declarations are prompters which give a source of information, close and open intelligence for the national security and other security apparatus to investigate and build up on some signals in the past that can leads to a threat of the state security.
Richard Kumadoe, opined that, looking at the weight and threats of some comments coming from some leading prophets in the country, it can be described as treasonable and called on the state security institutions and national intelligence arm of the government to step up their operations to enforce the law to discourage fear and panic as we are heading towards December election.
He is of the view that, the law must work this time round by engaging the religious bodies to be part of national election calendar to help build community of election process to build confidence and trust in all their public statements.
He further raised the concern by calling on the state, national security and the judiciary to carry out their duty in trust and fairness to help discourage the threats and wrong signals coming from block of the pulpits which can likely throw the country into confusion and violence.
Touching on the role of the Electoral Commission as the major stake holders in the December elections must follow all the clauses and rules in the constitutional instrument to conduct free and fair elections. This he said, since the stakes are high pointing to election violence, which can spark from campaign and wavering confidence coming from the electoral commission.
