DEDE AYEW’S VITAL ROLE BEYOND THE PITCH: A MUST-HAVE FOR THE BLACK STARS AT AFCON

With the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) just around the corner, the anticipation and excitement among football enthusiasts are palpable. Beyond the thrilling matches and the quest for glory, one story that’s gaining considerable attention is the indispensable role of seasoned veteran Dede Ayew for the Black Stars. While his on-field contributions are well-known, it’s his off-field expertise and experience that is increasingly becoming the talk of the town.

During a recent interview on Radio 360, former Black Stars player Emmanuel Agyeman Badu shed light on the vital role Dede Ayew plays beyond the pitch. According to Badu, Ayew’s significance lies in more than just his ability to score goals or provide assists. Badu emphasized the importance of off-field contributions, stating, “Football is not only about what the player does on the field. The off-field aspect of the game is often more crucial than what happens during the match.”

Badu illustrated this point with a personal narrative, recalling a time when he got injured while playing for Udinese. Then-national team coach Avram Grant insisted that he join the team’s camp despite not being fit to play. Grant knew that Badu’s experience and leadership qualities were invaluable both on and off the field. Badu, who was the head captain of the national team, understood the significance of his role beyond just playing.

Badu emphasized that Dede Ayew, currently serving as the head of the Black Stars, offers a unique perspective and wealth of experience that benefits the entire squad. Whether or not he’s on the field, his presence and guidance can be a game-changer for the younger talents in the team.

Badu noted, “So whether you need him on the field or not, you need him for the outside fieldwork. So, we shouldn’t rush to force him to leave the national team.”

Furthermore, Badu expressed his concern about the trend in Ghana, where players are pressured to leave the national team prematurely. He suggested that it’s wiser to retain experienced figures like Ayew, especially given his seven AFCON appearances, to mentor and guide the next generation. As the AFCON tournament approaches, fans eagerly await the squad announcement, hopeful that Dede Ayew’s name will be on the list.

The consensus is clear: Ayew’s role as the head of the department, with his vast AFCON experience, is an asset the Black Stars simply cannot afford to lose. While the decision ultimately rests with the coach, it’s evident that Ayew’s influence extends far beyond the field, making him an invaluable figure in the team’s quest for success.
