Deputy Commander of Operation Halt II Colonel Louis Boakye said the 6 Chinese nationals arrested over the weekend for engage in galamsey in the Amansie central of the Ashanti region have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service
The Operation Halt II team arrested six suspects found operating at an illegal mining site and also engaging in other poor environmental practices at Mile 9 and other communities in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, six Chinese and a Ghanaian, were found engaging in illegal mining in defiance of the government’s ban on activity, popularly known as galamsey.
The suspects are said to have caused significant damage to some water bodies including River Offin.
Speaking to journalists, Colonel Louis Boakye said they would continue the operation until the forest is free from illegal miners.
