US-based Ghanaian Lawyer, Professor Kwaku Asare says that the supreme court (SC) veered into the realm of politics in its writing on former Assin North Member of Parliament (MP), Hon James Gyakye Quayson.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Onokwafo Yaw Asiedu of Ahotor FM, Prof Asare said, the electoral commission (EC) through their regulations approved the gentleman to contest the elections but now the apex court is now saying they do not want to go by what PNDC Law 284 is saying about the timing of allegiance and now setting their own time and apply it retrospectively to disqualify Gyakye Quayson from parliament.
That is pure politics, he said.
According to him, Ghanaian citizens of the diaspora have skills and wealth, hence they should not be denied helping their country if they willingly come home to help.
Professor Kwaku Asare called on parliament to repel a section of the constitution that bans Ghanaians’ diaspora to come home and help if their hold dual citizenship.
