CHURCHES AT RAMSAR SITE WILL SOON BE DEMOLISHED – REGIONAL MINISTER.

The Greater Accra Regional minister Henry Quartey is caution against the sale of government lands by self acclaim owners of such lands.
He contents that, the government lands and the deployment of land guards to protect it is unlawful.
Mr Quartey said persons found engaging in a sale of government lands will be delt with in accordance with the law.

Mr Henry Quartey has also send a strong warning to those who have their properties at the RAMSAR SITE to remove them before it is too late
A Ramsar site is a wetland site designated to be of international importance under the Ramsar Convention, also known as “The Convention on Wetlands”, an intergovernmental environmental treaty established in 1971 by UNESCO, which came into force in 1975. It provides for national action and international cooperation regarding the conservation of wetlands, and wise sustainable use of their resources.
Ramsar identifies wetlands of international importance, especially those providing waterfowl habitat.

As of August 2022, there are 2,453 Ramsar sites around the world, protecting 255,792,244 hectares (632,076,400 acres), and 171 national governments are participating.
Speaking to the media, Mr Henry Quartey said the pulling down of structures at the Ramsar site will soon commence and will includes churches.
