A passenger of Intercity State Transport Company (STC) has taken to social media to lament what he describes as disrespect to travelers going to the North of Ghana compared to travelers to Kumasi and Takoradi.
According to Edem Kawku Ativor who travels often to the Upper West Region, STC, compared to VIP, allocates old buses with poor leg space to the 5 Northern Regions.
He noted that buses with registration years in 2006 and 2011 are usually placed enroute to Wa while modern buses with phone charging terminals are scheduled to Accra-Kumasi Accra-Takoradi routes.
“If you’re traveling to the north and you’re always on budget like me who can’t afford flight ticket, your best bet is VIP BUS pls. CERTAINLY NOT STC. It’s annoying to see STC keep the newer buses for Accra – Kumasi, Accra-Takoradi etc, and for a farther journey like Accra – Wa rather, STC will be using 2006, 2011 registered buses. On about two occasions the bus got spoilt on the road. Their seats so small and a 14hr journey with no phone charger. THIS IS DISRESPECT!” He wrote.
His complaints follows a transformation of the sector by Nana Akomea, a former Communication Director of the NPP who now heads the entity as Managing Director (MD) since 2017.
Nana Akomea has reportedly transformed the once defunct state transport agency such that it is now able to purchase new buses on its balance sheet. However, minor challenges remain.
