The Police administration says it has put in place stringent security measures for the World Cup Qualifier game between the Black Stars of Ghana and the Super Eagles of Nigeria on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi.
Police in a statement said in assuring officials of GFA, CAF & FIFA of an incident-free event, it has partnered other security services to deploy personnel in and around the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and within the Kumasi Metropolis in general.
“As part of the arrangements, there will be an additional deployment of Highway and Motorbike Patrols to augment the existing security deployment along all the 8 entry routes into Kumasi and other adjoining regions.”
It further said the MTTD has made adequate provisions to ensure effective traffic management.
In view of this, some roads will be blocked; including, Britania – Is My Kitchen Restaurant stretch on the north of the stadium, Eastern Stadium: Is My Kitchen Restaurant – Stadium Hotel Stretch, South: Amankwaatia School – TI Ahamadiya School and Western Side: Britania – TI Ahamadiya School.
Police also indicated that it will partner with the National Security, in screening everyone entering the Stadium for offensive and lethal weapons.
“For the safety of everyone and the integrity of the game, the Police will severely deal with any acts of hooliganism in and around the stadium,” it cautioned.
“Therefore, individuals or any group of persons intending to cause mayhem in the stadium should advise themselves and abort their plans.”
The Police further appealed to all supporters and the public to obey the rules and regulations put in place for the encounter.
“We entreat everyone to consider their personal security as a guiding principle before, during and after the game. We should all be guided by the traditional bond of friendship between Ghana and Nigeria and ensure that the outcome of this match does not mar the beauty of our collective security.”
“We urge members of the public and both fans to be on the lookout for the safety of each other and draw the attention of the Police to anything suspicious for immediate intervention. We wish the Black Stars of Ghana, the Super Eagles of Nigeria and all supporters best.”
