Assembly members in the Ashaiman metropolis have registered their displeasure against the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) for allegedly selling out the starlight school park to a Methodist Church for a church building project.
The Assembly members clad in red together with some residents vowed not to allow the TDC sell the only park available for the people of Ashaiman.
According to them this park serves as a recreational centre where funerals and other functions are held and also an evacuation point for the people in the area during flood and emergency times.
The Starlight park has been used as training grounds for lots of the youths, including the likes of Thomas Partey, Francis Cann, Moses Ojeh, Francis Narh and other players who are now professional players in Ghana.
Speaking at a press conference the Spokesperson for the group Godwin Tsimese ,the Assembly member for Okomante electoral is calling on the TDC to revoke the sale of the park or relocate the supposed buyers with the immediate effect, and also asked the Minister for Works and Housing to audit the activities of TDC.
The Protocol Officer for TDC, Iyan Okwei reacting to the issue noted that the land in question was for TDC and sold to the school which haven’t paid a dime till now.
The school rather leased the land to the Methodist Church which TDC thought it wise to allocate the land to the church through the right process.
