AFCON U20 : Ghana crowned African Champions

The Black Satellites of Ghana defeated the Hippos of Uganda in the final of the 2021 AFCON U20 final today in Nouakchott.

Two goals from skipper Daniel Afriyie Barnieh was enough to crown the Ghanaians African Champions on the day of their 64th Independence celebration.

The game was evenly balanced with both sides having a few chances in the first fifteen minutes. However, Afriyie broke the virginity of the game from a close range after some poor defending from the debutants in the 21st minute.

Six minutes into the second half, the skipper added to the tally after a sweet pass from striker Precious Boah in a counter attack to put the game beyond the Hippos.

Ghana hasn’t won the competition since 2009 and this was a perfect gift for Ghanaians as they celebrate their 64th Independence.

Ghana are now four times champions having won in 1993, 1999 and 2009.
The Ugandans were also in their first final in a major tournament since the 1978 AFCON. Coincidentally, Opoku Afriyie scored twice in the final and this time another Afriyie scored twice.
