The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested Helena Huang, a 43 year old Chinese national for an attempting to transport a two 24-footer truck loaded with four containers of rosewood from Tamale.
It was found upon arrest that the suspect Helen Huang,had no logging, salvaging nor lumber certificate from the forestry commission.
The trucks have been impounded and transported to the regional headquarters of the Ghana Police Service.
Briefing journalists, the Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Otuo Acheampong, said the trucks were intercepted at the Vitting Barrier Tuesday, May 7 by officers on duty.
The suspect has been “granted a police enquiry bail and asked to report Wednesday, May 8 to assist in investigations,” the Northern Regional Police Public Relations, DSP Yussif Mohammed Tanko, said.
DSP Tanko added that though the police could not immediately tell where the logs where being transported from, the suspect claimed ownership, stating that the trucks were heading to the Tema Port.
