The Municipal Chief Executive Officer at Weija Gbawe, Hon. Patrick Kumor has disclosed to AHOTOR news that his outfit is putting technical measures in place to avert flooding in the Weija Municipality of the greater Accra region.
The MCE in an exclusive interaction told AHOTOR news correspondent that, cogent and preparatory moves are far advanced to mitigate preventable flooding under his jurisdiction. He posited, major storm drains have been earmarked for dredging and adding that it is in the spirit of this that perennial flooding would be curb within the municipality under his tenure in office.
“This year we will ensure that what happened in times past regarding flooding may not occurred again” He assured.
He emphasized that major rivers in the community such as Densu, amongst other notable ones including streams within his catchment area will be desilted to stem the imminent devastation and activities of flooding, as the rain set to fall in heavy volumes as predicted and forecasted by the Meteorological service department.
Hon. Kumor also touched on sanitation related issues bedevilling the municipality, as he sensitized residents and indigene living in and around weijia and its environs about the need to live in
clean environment since indiscriminate disposal of refuse into major water bodies, around the periphery of Weija causes rivers each time its rain heavily, to overflow it banks leading to flooding which results in wreaking havoc, displaced hundreds of residents, as well as other preventable tragedies.
He further stressed that, the assembly is in full preparation to offer emergency support as its seeks to protect lives and property in the event of any natural disasters during the rainy season. He noted that, it behooves on them to discharge such mandated duties which is in tandem with the social contract with the people, as well as for the general wellbeing for all and sundry.
Mr. Patrick Kumor assured the people of Weija and adjoining communities that, rifting Weija off filths and stench is in consonant with President Akufo Addo’s Vision to make the Nation’s premier capital of Accra, the cleanest in Africa and in fulfilment of this pledge, the assembly will work assiduously to corroborate the President’s directive through proper laid down regulations governing the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, in the country.
Furthermore, Hon. Kumor told AHOTOR news’ reporter, Enouh Asamoah that he will work diligently to ensure there is strict compliance and adherence to the Assembly’s bye – laws which is aimed to maintain law and order within communities around Weija Gbawe enclave of the greater Accra region respectively.
