EC Chair urges co-operation from party agents

Mrs Charlotte Osei, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) has urged political parties that participated in the December 7 elections to urge their agents at the National Collation Centre to co-operate with the Commission to speed up the process.

Mrs Osei who briefed the media at the EC headquarters in Accra on Friday morning, said the refusal of party agents to sign the pink sheets had contributed to the delay in the collation process.

She announced that so far the Commission had received results from 210 out of the country’s 275 constituencies.

She gave the breakdowns of the remaining 65 constituencies as follows: Northern Region 25; Upper East Region 6; Brong Ahafo 10; and Ashanti Region 17.  The rest are Eastern Region 6; Volta Region 1; Western Region 16 and Central Region 1.

The EC Chair expressed dissatisfaction about the low voter turnout in Wednesday’s elections, saying that the turnout from 210 constituencies received so far totalled only 49 per cent.

She said officials at the Commission were working hard to complete the collation process within the 72-hour mark, and appealed to the public to remain calm.
