Alaska De Don questions why tax payers money will be used to fulfill personal promise

The host of Simpieso, the hottest political talk show airborne on Ahotor FM, Emmanuel Martey, Alaska De Don has questioned why the president of Ghana, Nana Addo Danquah will use taxpayers money to fulfill his personal promise made to God

In Speaking truth to power on the show, Friday June 3, 2022, Alaska said, he considers this attitude of the government as a misplaced priority

“I can’t understand why a government who claim to have the interest of Ghanaians at heart mismanage the public purse in such a manner and later tell Ghanaians to tighten their belts in the midst of economic hardship because we are not in normal times”

“In the face of numerous challenges facing the country where there are agitations here and there, you choose to give the tax payers money to fulfill your personal promise? No one is stopping you from fulfilling your own promise but don’t misuse our monies”

The president, Nana Addo Danquah has said, the construction of the cathedral is in fulfilment of a promise he made to God in the run-up to the 2016 elections

“If you’ve made your promise, use your own money to fulfill it, simple” Alaska fumed

Government has granted the release of GHC 25million to the National Cathedral Secretariat as additional seed money for the construction of the National Cathedral

A letter signed by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta to the Controller and Accountant’s General indicated, “Authority is hereby granted you to release the sum GHC25,000,000 (Twenty Five Million Ghana cedis) as seed money to the national cathedral for part payment of outstanding claims from RIBADE Limited

President Nana Addo has been criticized for this decision due to current economic challenges in the country
