The Management of Ahotor 92.3 FM has held a stakeholder get-together with officials of the Tema West Municipal Education Directorate, traditional leaders and other stakeholders ahead of the official launch of the third edition of the Ahotor Academic Showdown.
The gathering provided a platform for stakeholders to interact, share ideas and strengthen collaboration towards the successful organisation of this year’s competition.
The Academic Showdown, organised by Ahotor FM in collaboration with the Tema West Municipal Education Directorate, seeks to promote academic excellence, healthy competition and a strong culture of learning among students in the municipality. Previous editions have brought together basic schools to test students’ knowledge and abilities across various academic areas. The second edition, held in 2025, was won by Sakumono School Complex 2 JHS.
Speaking at the get-together, General Manager of Ahotor FM, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, popularly known as Daddy Bosco, thanked the stakeholders for their participation and support for the initiative.
He urged parents to encourage their wards to take part in the competition and said the Academic Showdown forms part of the station’s corporate social responsibility.
Daddy Bosco also appealed to corporate Ghana and other organisations to support the initiative and help expand the competition beyond the municipal level to the national stage.
The Tema West Municipal Education Director, Mrs Sophia Ako, said a critical assessment of the Academic Showdown demonstrates its importance to student development
She noted that the competition does not only test learners but also provides teachers with useful feedback on students’ academic performance, enabling them to identify areas where additional support may be required.
Mrs Ako encouraged teachers, students and other stakeholders to actively participate in the initiative, stressing the importance of such academic engagements in developing students’ knowledge, confidence and skills.
Other participants and stakeholders commended Ahotor FM for its continued support for education in the Tema West Municipality.
They urged parents to provide the necessary support for their wards and encouraged students to take their studies seriously and make good use of opportunities created through the Academic Showdown.
The third edition of the competition is expected to bring together basic schools across the municipality for another round of academic competition, with stakeholders’ hopeful that the initiative will continue to grow and have a wider impact on education.
