Ahotor FM 92.3 is set to organise a major free health screening exercise on Friday, September 18, 2026, in partnership with Banahene Specialist Hospital.
The initiative forms part of the station’s corporate social responsibility programme and is aimed at encouraging members of the public to pay greater attention to preventive healthcare.
Speaking on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM, hosted by Alexander Nana Dogbe in Accra, the Corporate Manager of Banahene Specialist Hospital, Nafis Adzi, said there is an urgent need for the public to take preventive health seriously.
He explained that preventive health involves taking steps to avoid diseases, detect health problems early, and maintain good health.
According to him, regular medical check-ups, vaccinations, healthy eating, physical exercise, good personal hygiene, and avoiding harmful habits such as smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are important measures for maintaining good health.
A medical practitioner at Banahene Specialist Hospital, Dr. Odoom, also stressed the importance of early detection, saying it can improve treatment outcomes and reduce the financial burden associated with serious illnesses.
She said the screening exercise will help identify early signs of non-communicable diseases and encourage people to become more conscious of their health.
Dr. Odoom is therefore calling on residents in Lashibi, Tema, and surrounding communities, as well as people outside the immediate catchment area, to take advantage of the exercise.
She said Banahene Specialist Hospital will provide professional support during the screening, including services related to women’s health. She noted that specialists, including gynaecological professionals, will be available to assist with health concerns and complications affecting women.
Dr. Odoom further expressed concern about the increasing practice of self-medication, particularly the inappropriate use of medicines and herbal preparations, which she said could contribute to serious health complications, including kidney-related problems.
She cautioned the public to be careful about self-medication and urged people to seek professional medical advice before taking medicines or herbal preparations.
The free health screening is scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Ahotor FM premises, where members of the public will have the opportunity to undergo general health checks and other relevant medical tests.
The organisers are encouraging the public to participate in the exercise as part of efforts to promote early detection, disease prevention and healthier lifestyles.
