Adwoa Safo Clarifies Dispute Over Kristo Asafo Leadership

Former Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo has clarified that the ongoing dispute surrounding the Kristo Asafo Church is not about personal ambition, church property, or inheritance.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, following what she described as an assassination attempt on her life on June 21, Adwoa Safo said many people had misunderstood the true nature of the disagreement.

According to her, the controversy is rooted in constitutional changes made by her late father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, in 2024, and not in any desire on her part to lead the church.

“The matter at hand is neither about any aspiration on my part to lead the Kristo Asafo Church, nor does it concern a dispute over church property or inheritance,” she stated.

Adwoa Safo further stressed that she has never relied on her late father’s wealth or estate for personal gain. She said she has always chosen a path of integrity, independence, contentment, and hard work, even before her father’s passing.

“I have never sought to draw wealth or personal gain from my late father’s estate or properties. My life has been defined by integrity, contentment, independence, and self-determined effort,” she noted.

She explained that the disagreement stems from amendments made to the Kristo Asafo Church’s constitution by Apostle Kwadwo Safo in 2024.

According to her, the changes removed Israel Kwadwo Safo as leader of the church and, in February 2025, appointed her as the head of the Kantanka family.

Adwoa Safo’s statement comes amid growing public interest in the leadership and governance of the Kristo Asafo Church following recent developments within the family.
