Negative Comments psychologically affect Swimming Athletes – Abeiku Jackson laments

Ghanaian Swimmer Abeiku Jackson has expressed his concerns about the detrimental effects of negative comments on athletes, particularly in the swimming Athletes in the ongoing 13th African games.

In an interview after clinching bronze medal in the 100m men’s butterfly, Abeiku Jackson highlighted on the significant impact the negative remarks or negative comments, whether from spectators, coaches, or volunteers that erode the athlete’s confidence and motivation affecting the athlete’s mental well-being and performance.

Swimming requires immense dedication, perseverance, and self-belief, and constant criticism can undermine these qualities. However, Abeiku Jackson pointed out that the prevalence of social media exacerbates the issue, as athletes are often subjected to a barrage of negative comments and scrutiny online.
