President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly promised that the government will ensure the Electoral Commission (EC) organizes a fair and trustworthy election in December.
During his second-to-last State of the Nation address on Tuesday, February 27, Akufo-Addo stressed that the government will also make sure everyone understands the importance of having a peaceful election, spreading this message across the entire country.
“This year is an election year, and everyone, even those who don’t usually care about politics, will know that on December 7, we will be voting for a new president and new Members of Parliament.”
The President highlighted how crucial the Electoral Commission’s role is in organizing elections that people can trust. He stressed the need for teamwork among all involved parties.
He urged political parties to respect the democratic system and see elections as chances for progress, not division.
“The Electoral Commission has a big job to do to ensure our elections are fair. The government is helping them as much as possible.
“Political parties also have a big role. They need to show that they respect the democratic system. Some people may want to challenge it, but parties should prove that elections are honorable and bring us together. Even when they lose, they should congratulate the winner. Losing an election doesn’t mean the end of the world.”
