Mahama Government Committed to Systematic Economic Transformation – Vice President Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed the commitment of the H.E. John Dramani Mahama–led government to the systematic transformation of Ghana’s economy through strategic industrialization and domestic production.

According to her, a key mechanism for achieving this vision is Ghana’s framework for industrialization, revitalisation, support, and transformation, which is designed to reposition the economy onto a sustainable and inclusive growth path.
She explained that at the heart of this framework is a deliberate policy focus on promoting local manufacturing, supporting value addition, and creating decent and sustainable jobs for Ghanaians.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang made these remarks while commissioning the Softcare Pad Production Line in Accra. She noted that the establishment of such manufacturing facilities reflects the government’s broader industrial reset agenda, which prioritizes domestic manufacturing as a catalyst for economic growth, industrial resilience, and reduced dependence on imports.

She further emphasized that Africa must move beyond the historical model of exporting raw materials, stressing that the continent’s long-term prosperity depends on processing its natural resources locally. “Whether it is oil, cocoa, diamonds, copper, gold, or other resources, the future lies in processing and value addition,” she stated.

The Vice President added that by strengthening local industries and encouraging innovation across the manufacturing value chain, Ghana can retain more value within its economy, expand employment opportunities, and enhance its competitiveness on the global market.
She therefore called on the private sector, development partners, and financial institutions to collaborate with the government in driving the industrialization agenda and unlocking the full potential of Ghana’s productive sectors.
