In a groundbreaking leap for women’s football, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has kickstarted a financial windfall by disbursing the initial payments to the 20 Women’s Premier League Clubs for the upcoming 2023/24 Malta Guinness Premier League season. This dynamic move underscores the GFA’s commitment to fostering women’s football development and fortifying support for the league’s growth.
The GFA’s President, Simeon-Okraku, revealed during the 29th ordinary congress at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology that each of the 20 Women’s Premier League Clubs is set to receive a robust Sixty-Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc60,000) as an amplified package for their participation in the upcoming league season.
In a tangible demonstration of this commitment, the Northern Zone’s ten clubs and the Southern Zone’s ten clubs have already received their first instalments. The Northern Zone clubs welcomed a boost of Twenty-five Thousand Cedis (GHc25,000) each, while their Southern counterparts received Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc20,000). This is part of the comprehensive Sixty Thousand Cedis (GHc60,000) package announced earlier at the congress.
The financial injection, totalling a remarkable Four Hundred and Fifty Thousand Cedis (GHc450,000), is a monumental stride in empowering and supporting women’s football at the grassroots level. The GFA’s commitment to advancing women’s football is not just a promise but a tangible reality, ensuring that the game thrives across all sectors.
This strategic move positions the GFA as a pioneering force in championing gender equality in football, setting the stage for an exciting and prosperous era for women’s football in Ghana.
