National Communication Team member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ellen Ama Daaku has called on Ghanaians to also celebrate the women that played a role in the fight for Ghana’s independence.
Speaking in an interview monitored by Ahotor FM, she said the country didn’t gain independence through only Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the big six because there were women behind the men throughout and they must be appreciated too.
According to her, the popular Antie Deede who was named after buses in the country was one of the women hence, we need to find all and appreciate their effort for setting the country free from colonialism.
She indicated that we can also establish a museum like we have done for Kwame Nkrumah and the rest as a form of appreciation to the women because they are also role models to some of the women and girls of today.
The government, through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has rehabilitated and modernized work on the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to transform it into a world-class tourism park.
The facility, popularly known as the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, was built in 1992 but was closed to the public for rehabilitation.
According to the Tourism Ministry, it is currently not attractive to visitors.
