No Threat to Stability in Petition Against EC Leadership — Issaka Among Kotei

The call by the petitioners for the removal of the Electoral Commissioner and their deputies is within the right constitutional framework and will not negatively affect the governance or constitutional order of the country.

History shows that past governments have relied on constitutional provisions to initiate similar processes based on evidence, and therefore there is nothing wrong with citizens exercising their constitutional rights in this regard.

Issaka Among Kotei, a Local Governance Expert and political analyst, made these remarks on the Adekyee Mu Nsem morning show on Ahotor FM 92.3, hosted by Citizen Kofi Owusu in Accra.

He stressed that political office holders must remain disciplined and work in the interest of the country rather than prioritizing their personal or political agendas. According to him, public office is not a private space where occupants can act as they please.

Mr. Kotei emphasized that the petitioners have done nothing wrong or inappropriate that could harm the governance or political leadership of the country. Although the Electoral Commission and the Judiciary are sensitive institutions, the petitioners’ actions do not pose any threat to the smooth functioning of the nation, as they are merely exercising their constitutional rights.

He further noted that there are several alleged infractions and wrongdoings involving some heads of institutions, and the petitioners, being aware, are rightfully taking democratic steps by petitioning the President.

He therefore urged the Chief Justice, as the recipient of the petition, to thoroughly examine its contents and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable and made to face justice.
