The Minority members on the Appointments Committee of Parliament have boycotted the activities of the committee over parliament’s failure to rise today, Wednesday April 5.
According to Starr News sources, the vetting committee sitting is ongoing but the minority is unanimous in their boycott.
Checks by StarrFMonline.com indicate that the Appointments Committee was not supposed to sit today [Wednesday] per its timetable, but the committee decided to sit because President Akufo-Addo wants all his 54 deputy ministerial nominees to be vetted and approved before the house rises.
Speaking to Starr News’ Parliamentary correspondent Ibrahim Alhassan, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa said they are boycotting the activities of the committee because they feel the right thing is not being done.
He said the batch that are being vetted currently were not supposed to be vetted until May.
“So, Why the rush,? he queried, adding “this is a very serious exercise” and that due diligence and thoroughness is required.
But under the circumstances, “you look at the elephant size of the appointments” that cannot be done, he added.
