The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is gearing up for an exciting new chapter as its President, Bessa Simons, has announced a brand-new award scheme set to launch next year. The initiative, called “MUSIGA Honours,” is designed to celebrate and uplift hardworking Ghanaian musicians who continue to shape the nation’s music legacy.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Celebration, which marked MUSIGA’s 50 years of championing Ghanaian music, Bessa Simons revealed that the awards will be unique in structure. Unlike other award schemes that involve public voting or academy panels, MUSIGA Honours will be decided exclusively by musicians themselves.
According to him, this system ensures fairness, credibility, and a deeper appreciation of artistry, as “no one understands the work of a musician better than another musician.”
The announcement sparked excitement among industry players gathered at the event, many of whom applauded MUSIGA for creating a platform that recognises genuine talent and hard work within the music fraternity.
The awards, expected to debut in 2026, will spotlight both veteran and emerging artists across multiple genres, with a strong emphasis on celebrating creativity, dedication, and cultural impact.
As MUSIGA marks its 50th anniversary, the introduction of “MUSIGA Honours” signals a renewed commitment to elevating Ghanaian musicians and preserving the country’s musical heritage.
