Pressure group ‘SAVE NPP NOW’ has issued a press release on the current happenings in the political and governance structures of our country.
Below is the Press Release,
SAVE NPP NOW!
26th March, 2017
PRESS RELEASE:
For Immediate Release:
PRESIDENT NANA AKUFO-ADDO IS LIKELY TO FAIL GHANAIANS
We have observed a worrying trend of a litany of bad decisions and scandals that have rocked the Akufo-Addo government in its first three (3) months. The shocking part is that these issues seem to be spurred on by poor leadership and lack of good judgement on the part of President Akufo-Addo.
In January this year, we indicated our willingness to allow at least a grace period of not more than six (6) after which we will assess the productivity levels and performance of the President and his appointees.
However, we have been compelled by the gravity and magnitude of the current happenings within the country to speak now and voice out our dissatisfaction with the seemingly hopeless state in which the country finds itself with regards to;
1. Bloated Government Size: We are totally disappointed to find out that the President has appointed a whopping 110 Ministers and Deputy Ministers to form his Government. Akufo-Addo has betrayed the trust of Ghanaian especially when he led the NPP campaign to save the public purse. What is more embarrassing is the nuisance explanations being given by Government functionaries on the elephant-sized government.
2. Boakye Agyarko’s Bribery Scandal: The Minister of Energy is alleged to have bribed and attempted to bribe members of the Appointments Committee of Parliament and up till now, the President has not found space to speak to this matter and crack the whip accordingly. Instead, a certain perceived wishy-washy committee of Parliament has been inaugurated with the manifest intention (through their actions at the public hearing) of making Boakye Agyarko, the culprit, look clean.
3. Perpetuation of Violence by the Invisible Forces: In the last three (3) months, the people of Ghana have been inundated with news about the mayhem, chaos, intimidations and life threatening assaults launched by the NPP’s militant and armed paramilitary group called the “Invisible Forces”. It is common knowledge that the members of this force operated from the residence of the President while in opposition.
Among many other heinous crimes, the Invisible Forces have forcibly taken over or vandalized state properties; brutalized a Police Officer at the Presidency and violently removed the Ashanti Regional National Security Coordinator from his office in Kumasi.
We wish to remind Ghanaians that while the NPP was in opposition, we warned that the Invisible Forces could become a National Security threat to the country if their nefarious activities were not nipped in the bud. In our petition to the International Democratic Union, we mentioned how innocent members of the party who were perceived as not loyal to Nana Akufo-Addo suffered brutalities and physical abuse at the hands of the Invisible Forces and recalled the cases of many victims of their intimidations, harassments, threats and near-fatal attacks.
We are even more saddened by the fact that President Akufo-Addo has turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to the many calls by well-meaning Ghanaians for him to show leadership and exhibit good judgement in the face of these embarrassing scandals that are rocking his government on a daily basis.
It is very shameful and disgraceful that after winning a landslide victory at the polls with Ghanaians having so much hope in the NPP, the President seems to be quickly forgetting about the core needs and aspirations of the people of Ghana with his lack of good judgement and indecisiveness.
With above foregoing, it is obvious that Nana Akufo-Addo is hinging towards failure; and Ghana is traveling on a path of doom and gloom and the NPP will suffer for it in future.
Henceforth, SAVE NPP NOW! will hold regular press conferences (at least, once a month) and also issue weekly press releases on pertinent matters of state as far as this government is concerned.
We wish to call on all civil society groups, the Clergy, international community and all stakeholders in Ghana to add their voices to our caution to President Akufo-Addo to wake up, sit up, take charge, show leadership and redirect the ship of Ghana from the current turbulent waters onto the path of peace, stability, protection, progress and prosperity for all and not a privileged few.
Long live SAVE NPP NOW
Long Live the NPP!
Long Live Ghana!
