Former Ghana international Anthony Annan may no longer be in the spotlight of elite European football, but the midfield dynamo is far from hanging up his boots. The 2010 World Cup star is still active, continuing his passion for the beautiful game in Germany.
Annan currently plays for DJK Arminia Lirich, an amateur club based in Oberhausen. He joined the side in August 2023, bringing his vast experience, professionalism, and leadership to a team competing in the lower tiers of German football.
Despite his illustrious career, which saw him feature for clubs like Rosenborg, Schalke 04, Osasuna, HJK Helsinki, and represent Ghana at multiple AFCON tournaments, Annan has chosen to stay close to the game on a more relaxed and community-focused level. His presence at Arminia Lirich has been described as a major boost for young players, who now train alongside a former Black Stars regular known for his tenacity and tactical intelligence.
Now in his mid-thirties, Anthony Annan continues to embody the spirit of a true professional: disciplined, passionate, and committed to football in any capacity. His journey is a reminder that love for the sport doesn’t end with the glitz of top leagues; sometimes, it continues quietly on community pitches, inspiring the next generation.
Fans of the Black Stars will be pleased to know that Annan is still kicking, guiding, and enjoying every moment of the game he loves.
