I supported John Boadu against you but God knows best; let’s work hard to break the 8 – Wontumi tells JFK

The Ashanti Region Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi) has said he and the newly-elected national executives will work hard to break the 8-year electoral cycle for the NPP.

In a letter he wrote to the new-elected General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, JFK as he is affectionately known, he said although he supported John Boadu against him, God knows best therefore, he accepts the outcome.

“God knows what is good for our dear party, I supported JB but the delegates in their own wisdom chose you. We look forward to working hard so that together we can ‘Break The 8’ may God bless you and once again CONGRATULATIONS to you and the NPP for a successful elections from Chairman Wontumi to JFK,” he said.

John Boadu lost his seat in the National Annual Delegates’ Conference of his party on Saturday July 16.

He was defeated by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Justin Kodua Frimpong.

JFK poll 2,837 of the total valid votes cast to beat the incumbent John Boadu, who polled 2,524 votes.

Following the ouctome of the elections, New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Kennedy Ohene Agyapong issued a salvo to Chairman Wontumi to stay calm in the face of internal elections.

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central Constituency said it was wrong for him, and 15 other regional chairmen to openly declare support for a candidate.

“The signal is clear to every senior member of the party not to come openly and raise hands,” he said while speaking in an interview with Media General‘s Eric Mawuena Egbeta at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, July 17.

“The 15 chairmen and the Central Regional Chairman, where are the 16 chairmen? They should be ashamed of themselves because they couldn’t decide for the party.

“My brother Wontumi should cool down. He should cool down [because] he doesn’t own this party. He doesn’t at all. He has to cool down.”

He explained that Chairman Wontumi cajoled the other chairmen to raise hands openly to support some candidates.

“All of them have been embarrassed. If it had been anywhere, all the chairmen would resigned.”
