NSS Personnel set to embark on nationwide strike over non-payment of their allowances
Personnel of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are set to embark on a nationwide strike.
The decision has become necessary because these young guys and young ladies have not been paid their allowances for the past four months.
The strike will be effective on Monday 30th May 2022 and it is expected to be in place till further notice.
Some Ghanaians reacted to the impending strike:
@IngSuhuyini – NSS Personnel for private companies too dey mong?
Sekof them dey cash out unlike their compatriots or they’ll show solidarity?
@espioj – This can’t be real, can it?
You know what would be hilariously depressing? Imagine all NSS members strike but their absence from work is later revealed to have had virtually no negative impact on the daily operations of any employer?
May God bless our homeland.
Many prominent personalities including the former president of Ghana, John Mahama have called the government out over its failure to pay these allowances.
On the part of John Mahama, he took to his official Facebook page and shared a photo of the time he was doing his national service.
In the post, he empathized with the personnel over the delay in the payment of the allowance.
“I empathize with National Service personnel today. We have all passed through the scheme before. Please pay them the arrears of their allowances.”
