The Member of Parliament for Akan Constituency, Hon Yao Gomado has cautioned the media to be wary of being politically motivated in their reportage of issues
Speaking this morning on Adekye Mu Nsem, he stated that the media must be fair and potray professionalism in their work
“I don’t know if journalism have been changed, I’m not a journalist but reading the rules of journalism, you need to be fair but now it’s no more journalism we are seeing, it is who to please”
He questioned why some media personnel would decide to twist reportage to favor a political party
“Is it because of the stomach? Is it because of somebody’s own parochial interest that he has to get up and publish anything at all?”
Hon Yao was responding to a publication in the chronicle newspaper, page 3 with the headline “NDC lacked Numbers to torpedo e-levy”
A part of the publication stated, “Evidence are emerging that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Minority in Parliament apparently took decision to walk out from the chamber during the passage of the e-levy bill into law on Tuesday, this week, because they lacked the numbers”
“Official records of the House indicated that nine members of parliament (MPs) were absent from proceedings on Tuesday, March 29, 2022”
Apart from the MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sara Adwoa Sarfo, the publication stated, the rest were members of the minority
But the Akan law maker stated, that is not true and it’s a clear indication there is something wrong and needs to be rectified because apart from the Assin North MP who has a court issue and could not make it to parliament that, the others were all present
Hon Yao in an interview with the host, Citizen Kofi Owusu asked, “Do you trust some of these papers? I told you the other time I came to your studio that the harms that are being caused in Ghana are from you, the media”
He urged the media to be very careful because they are the voice of the people
“Think of the nation, you are the voice of the people, you tell the world whatever happens. If you are going one sided, let’s be careful, we don’t have any other Ghana, this is our country”
