Significant tension is brewing within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following revelations that a key bloc of delegates and supporters, once firmly aligned with former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is preparing to make a surprising political declaration ahead of the party’s flagbearer selection.
The group, known as the Zongo Caucus for Bawumia, boasts a membership of more than 500 individuals across the country. According to its leadership, the caucus has concluded a period of extensive consultations and will soon announce a “new political direction” after reassessing the visions and aspirations of all flagbearer contenders.
Confirming the development in an interview with journalists, the Caucus Chairman, Mr. Mohammed Gawo, said the decision was reached independently and after deep reflection.
> “Nobody is forcing us. We are more than 500 members nationwide, and this is the final decision we are making,” Mr. Gawo stated. “Last year, we took a stand, and this year we are taking another. Our goal is simple,we want what’s best for the party, and we’ve always stood by our convictions.”
The impending announcement has sparked heated discussions within party ranks, with many members expressing anxiety over what could be a major realignment within the NPP’s support base.
Political analysts warn that the move by such a large and organized bloc could significantly influence the fortunes of whichever aspirant the group decides to withdraw its support from and, conversely, provide a major boost to the candidate who earns their backing.
As anticipation mounts, all eyes remain on the Zongo Caucus for Bawumia to see whether their next step will deepen internal divisions or reshape the dynamics of the NPP’s flagbearer race.
