Western Togoland secessionists attack 2 police stations in Volta Region, cease weapons

A group of armed men numbering about 50 believed to be members of the Western Togoland secessionists group have reportedly attacked the Mepe and Aveyime Police Stations, both in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region in the early hours of Friday.

The armed men, acting simultaneously, forcibly took over both stations and overpowered police officers. They then broke into the armoury, took all the weapons and made away with it.

The group at Mepe then hoisted a Western Togoland flag joined their colleagues at the Aveyime Police Station and drove away in two seized police vehicles.

The group also blocked the Mepe-Sege road and the Accra-Ho road at Juapong, causing heavy vehicular traffic.
