Former football star Lawrence Agyei says he doesn’t believe in superstitious practices like juju although he knows it exists.
The former poster boy for Accra Hearts of Oak, the ex midfielder says during his entire playing career, he never visited a native doctor for either protection or for favours.
In an interview on Ahotor Agrokansie with Raymond Owusu Amoabeng (Daakyehene), Adjei said although he knows some clubs did it during his time, he didn’t believe it because he has never been superstitious.
With debate on superstition in football doing the rounds, Lawrence opined that serious training and being prayerful has been his secret and that gave him a successful career.
In his advice to the youth, he urged them not to concentrate on juju but rather hard work and determination to reach their ultimate goal.
He said, lots of footballers have failed to live up their dreams and their careers crashed due to their superstitious beliefs. Some think that without juju, they can’t achieve their goals and they end up not reaching their ultimate.
Some soccer fans are of the view that, juju has taken over football in Africa with lots of wild allegations by some footballers against opposing teams, their team mates and opponents.
