The Eastern Regional Women Organiser of the main opposition NDC, Madam Shirley Naana Osei – Ampem, has reveal that it is very difficult in contemporary politics in Ghana for a woman to thrive, and succeed, if you do not have a “lions heart”.
She said on Adekye Mu Nsem program that, women go through lots of vilification and vendetta in partisan politics in the country.
“There is a perception that, any woman who succeeds in politics in Ghana, flirts with men, and that is a worry and concern to me but nonetheless you must be forthright and forge ahead to dispel any of such bad tendencies ” she added !
Obaatampa Shirley Naana Ampem reiterated that, women should be empowered, and motivated to assume high profile positions in the society since women also have a part to play in shaping the destiny of nations across the world.
Madam Osei – Ampem, stressed on the need for a more concerted and collaborative efforts to deal with the incessant challenges women endure in leadership roles especially with their male counterparts.
Madam Naana Ampem, emphasize on the importance to eschew negative perceptions associated with women in governance.
She used the platform to underscore the need for more activism, and social advocacy programmes to demystify any of such primitive notions which retards the growth and participation of women in the growth of the country.
