Mother arrested after baby allegedly abandoned in Mbradan bush

A woman has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service after her eight-to-nine-month-old baby was reportedly found abandoned in a bush at Mbradan New Site in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region.

The infant was allegedly left at the location on Sunday, November 1, 2026, prompting concern among residents after the child was discovered.

What led to the incident

Initial reports indicate that the mother may have abandoned the baby following a dispute over parental responsibility. Sources said the child’s father was allegedly unwilling to take care of the infant, while the mother was also struggling financially and had no reliable source of income.

The woman is reported to be from Kadawene, a community near Mbradan. However, police have not confirmed the identity of the child’s father or the exact circumstances under which the baby was left in the bush.

Police investigation underway

The Ghana Police Service has arrested the mother in connection with the alleged abandonment. Investigators are working to establish the full facts of the case, including whether criminal charges will be preferred.

Details about the baby’s condition and current care arrangements have not yet been made public. Further information is expected as the investigation continues.

Child protection concerns

The case has renewed attention on the risks faced by infants abandoned in unsafe environments. Under Ghana’s child-protection framework, cases of abandonment typically require police investigation, social-welfare intervention and arrangements to ensure the child’s immediate safety and long-term care.

Authorities and child-rights advocates generally urge caregivers facing financial hardship or family disputes to seek assistance from relatives, community leaders or the Department of Social Welfare, rather than leaving a child unattended.
