President Mahama Praises Reverend Wengam for Raising Profile of Assemblies of God Ghana

ACCRA, Ghana, 12th October: President John Dramani Mahama has praised the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana, Reverend Stephen Wengam, for contributing to the church’s growing profile and membership.

He said the church had continued to grow under Reverend Wengam’s leadership, attracting new members and strengthening its standing within Ghana’s Pentecostal-charismatic movement.

President Mahama made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the church’s Executive Committee, led by Global Chairman Dominic Yeo, at the Presidency.

“Since Reverend Wengam became the General Superintendent, the image of the church has continued to grow from strength to strength,” the President stated.

He described the Assemblies of God Church in Ghana as one of the leading Pentecostal-charismatic churches in the country and commended its members for their contributions to the wider Christian community.

President Mahama also cited developments within his own congregation at Ringway Gospel Centre as an indication of the church’s growth.

He disclosed that the local assembly had baptised about 90 new members in a single batch, adding that increasing attendance had created the need to consider further expansion of its facilities.

According to him, the church is looking at how to accommodate more worshippers if membership continued to grow at the current pace.

The President said the planned expansion would be the third time the congregation had increased its capacity to accommodate additional members.

He expressed satisfaction that the Ghanaian church was hosting an international congress at a time when its local membership was expanding.

President Mahama also commended Reverend Wengam and the Local Organising Committee for their preparations, acknowledging the logistical difficulties associated with hosting an international gathering.

He expressed confidence that the congress would be successful and that delegates would leave Ghana with positive memories.

The President welcomed the international Executive Committee and reaffirmed his pride in being a member of the Assemblies of God Church.
