Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has added another major honour to his 2026 achievements after being named Entertainer of the Year at the 9th Ghana Entertainment Awards USA.
The award recognises his impact across music, performances and entertainment. Shatta Wale was among the nominees in the category alongside names including Black Sherif, Stonebwoy, Medikal, Nana Ama McBrown and Kofi Kinaata.
The latest honour comes after an active year for the dancehall artiste. In May 2026, he won Best African Dancehall Entertainer and Concert of the Year at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), taking his total IRAWMA wins to 11.
Born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., Shatta Wale began his music journey under the name Bandana before rebranding as Shatta Wale. His breakthrough came with the hit song “Bandana from Ghana,” while his 2013 song “Dancehall King” helped establish his new identity and strengthened his position in Ghana’s dancehall scene.
Over the years, he has released several successful songs including “Taking Over,” “My Level,” “Gringo,” “Ayoo” and “On God.” He has also built a reputation for major concerts and a strong international fan base.
The Ghana Entertainment Awards USA was established to celebrate the achievements of Ghanaian musicians, entertainers and creative industry professionals both in Ghana and the diaspora.
