Businessman and Founder and Leader of the Union Government, Akwasi Addai Odike, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to accelerate the implementation of key development projects and take steps to revive Ghana’s national airline before the end of his administration.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu programme in Accra on August 29, 2026, Mr. Odike acknowledged some initiatives undertaken by the Mahama administration but said government must do more to ensure that major projects are completed within the remaining period of its mandate.
According to him, the President must ensure that ministers deliver effectively in their respective sectors, particularly as government has limited time to fulfil its promises to Ghanaians.
Odike Questions Performance of Some Ministers
Mr. Odike expressed concern about the performance of some NDC ministers, saying their output does not meet public expectations.
He urged the ministers to improve their performance and focus on delivering measurable results that will have a direct impact on the lives of Ghanaians.
He also raised concerns about persistent network and communication challenges in the country and called on the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation to intensify efforts to address problems affecting telecommunications and digital connectivity.
Commends Zanetor Rawlings’ Appointment
Mr. Odike, however, welcomed the appointment of Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to a ministerial position, describing it as a positive development.
He expressed the hope that she would make significant progress in addressing illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, which he described as one of the major challenges confronting the country.
Calls for Revival of Ghana Airways
Turning to Ghana’s aviation sector, Mr. Odike described a recent project at the airport as a positive development and urged the government to take advantage of Ghana’s strategic position to develop the country into an aviation hub.
He specifically called on President Mahama to consider reviving Ghana Airways, arguing that a strong national carrier could improve Ghana’s international connectivity while supporting tourism, trade and other economic activities.
According to Mr. Odike, a revived national airline could also strengthen Ghana’s position as an aviation hub in the sub-region and create additional economic opportunities.
He said the remaining period of the Mahama administration must be used effectively to complete major development projects, improve the performance of government institutions and deliver on key promises made to Ghanaian.
