Eight people in military uniforms who come under a group called “United Army,” are currently in the grips of the police assisting in investigation.

They were reportedly found loitering around the presidential apartment at the Peduase Lodge, near Aburi in the Eastern Region.

The leader, Abdul Rashid Mohammad, 20, was apprehended by the Combat 8 patrol team from Accra, together with guards on duty at the Presidential Lodge upon intelligence.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Eastern Regional Police spokesperson, who confirmed the arrests , said the suspect, with seven others, were fully dressed in military uniforms and loitering around the Peduase Lodge on Saturday.

According to ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, the suspect, who claimed he works at the parcel department of VIP Transport Company, was spotted by the team and that his demeanor gave him out.

The Police Regional PRO said upon interrogation, Abdul Rashid Mohammad admitted he was not a soldier, but was impersonating one and confessed that the uniform was given to him by one Sowah.

ASP Ebenezer Tetteh explained further, “When the suspect was sent to the Aburi police station, a few minutes later, a group of seven young men, all wearing army-green trousers, T-shirts and long boots, suddenly stormed the station and introduced themselves as members of “United Army” – a group formed by the suspect.

“During interrogation they could not tell the mission of the group, therefore, they were also arrested and detained. Among them is Sowah whom the ringleader alleged provided him with the military uniforms,” the police officer stated.

He added that National Security had taken up the matter to investigate and ascertain the mission of the group.
