World Cup 2026: Black Stars Capable of Performing at the Highest Level – Jordan Ayew

Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to compete with the world’s best, praising his teammates for their impressive start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

Ayew made the remarks during a high-profile visit by a Ghanaian delegation to the team’s training base in Rhode Island on Thursday, where officials commended the squad for their performances at the tournament so far.

Ghana opened their Group L campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama before holding England to a goalless draw in a disciplined display. The results have left the Black Stars on four points after two matches and firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stages.

Reflecting on the team’s performances, Ayew highlighted the players’ determination, discipline, and belief, insisting that Ghana has shown it can compete against elite opposition on football’s biggest stage.

“We’ve shown that we’re capable of performing at the highest level,” the Black Stars skipper said. “The team has worked extremely hard, and the players have demonstrated great commitment and character in our opening matches.”

The visiting delegation included Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Victor Smith, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and renowned businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama.

The officials encouraged the players to maintain their focus and momentum as they prepare for their final group-stage encounter.
Ghana, who are seeking to reach the World Cup knockout rounds for the first time since their historic run to the quarter-finals in 2010, will wrap up their Group L campaign against Croatia on Saturday, June 27, at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

The Black Stars have since relocated from Rhode Island to Philadelphia as preparations intensify for the crucial fixture, which could determine their fate in the tournament.
