Flooding Disrupts Traffic in Parts of Accra After Downpour

A rainfall on Wednesday evening, June 3, has led to flooding in parts of Accra, disrupting traffic flow and affecting commuters in several areas.

One of the most affected locations is the Ashaiman Underbridge, a key transport link connecting Ashaiman to neighbouring communities including Sakumono, Kanele, and Adjei Kojo.

The underbridge has been partially submerged by floodwaters, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to pass. The situation has slowed traffic significantly, with motorists either turning back or diverting to alternative routes.

Commuters in the area are left stranded temporarily as water collected on the stretch, raising concerns about road safety and accessibility during rainfall.

Road users have been advised to exercise caution and avoid the affected section where possible until conditions improve.

Elsewhere, parts of the Abokobi–Parakuo road stretch towards Ablor Adjei also experienced some level of waterlogging, affecting smooth vehicular movement.

Floodwaters have also affected parts of Tesano, adding to the impact of the downpour.

The incident has renewed concerns about drainage challenges in parts of the capital during the rainy season, with calls for improved infrastructure to reduce recurring disruptions.

Authorities are yet to provide an official assessment of the situation.
