According to Henry Asante Twum, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, the Swedish coach has withdrawn from his duties with the senior men’s national team to concentrate exclusively on his primary responsibility as head coach of the Black Queens.
Bjorkegren had only recently been added to the men’s setup to help with preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but that arrangement has now ended.
The move comes just weeks after his appointment to the Black Stars bench, a decision that generated considerable discussion and mixed reactions within Ghanaian football circles.
By stepping away from the men’s team, the experienced tactician will now be able to devote his full attention and expertise to the women’s national team as they prepare for a busy schedule ahead, most notably the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
