TEMA, Ghana, 16th May: Secretary General of the Ghana Federation of Labour (GFL), Abraham Koomson, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on empowering its grassroots supporters instead of paying attention to what he described as the “gimmicks” of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to Mr. Koomson, the true strength and resources of every political party are rooted in the ordinary people at the grassroots level, stressing that neglecting them could create serious problems for the party in the future.
Speaking on Ahotor FM’s Yepe Ahunu show on Saturday, May 16, Mr. Koomson cited the current difficulties facing the Labour Party in the United Kingdom as a lesson the NDC must learn from.
He explained that even a strong political party could lose its influence and support if it fails to maintain close contact with the people and ignores their concerns.
Mr. Koomson further noted that politics is completely different from running a private business where an individual can make decisions independently.
“Politics is about people. You cannot treat a political party like a personal business. The people who worked hard and sacrificed to bring you to power are your greatest resource. Once you neglect them, problems begin to emerge,” he stated.
He therefore advised the NDC leadership to remain connected to its grassroots base, listen to the concerns of supporters, and continue to empower party faithful across the country in order to maintain unity and strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
