Techiman to host next NDC’s unity walk

Barely few weeks the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) ended its fourth Unity Walk in Tarkwa of the Western Region, the party is not relenting its effort in organising its grassroots and is again sending message to its members of another one.

The party is set to organise its fifth (5th) ‘Unity Walk’ in Techiman of the Brong Ahafo Region the home soil of the immediate past First Lady of Ghana, Mrs. Lordina Mahama on Saturday December 30, 2017.

The Unity Walk’ is aimed at closing the ranks of the umbrella family and building bridges that were broken in the party before and during the 2016 electioneering.

Report gathered from the organisers, indicating that the former President John Mahama will lead the Unity Walk in Techiman with his former appointees.

The former President John Mahama has not declared his intention about leading the party again in 2020 general elections, but inside critics believe the Walk and other moves being made the former President are indications of a desire to hold on to the party leadership hence so far majority of his former appointees, some national executives and all the ten Regional Chairmen have openly endorsed him to lead the party.

The NDC party will have its Presidential Primaries in November next year, 2018 to elect its Presidential Candidate for the 2020 general elections.

The ‘Unity Walk’ is under the theme, “Mobilisation of the grassroots, a shared responsibility”.

The ‘Unity Walk’ forms part of recommendations made by the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey committee after the party suffering a humiliating defeat in the general elections held on December 7, 2016 at the hands of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

At the recent edition of the ‘Unity Walk’ held in Tarkwa, former President John Mahama said a number of reforms being carried out by the are part of initiatives to implement recommendations made by the Prof. Kwesi Botchwey committee.

The other presidential hopefuls such as Mr. Sylvester Mensah, Mr. Stephen Atubiga, Hon Albert Abban Bagbin, Dr. Ekow Spio Garbrah, Prof Joshua Alabi among others missed in actions in Tarkwa’s Unity Walk and it is likely the same thing will happen in Techiman.
