COCOBOD refutes reports of GH¢12m donation to Black Stars

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly denied reports alleging that it donated GH¢12 million to support the Black Stars, describing the claims as “false, misleading, and entirely without factual basis.”

The clarification follows widespread social media speculation suggesting that funds from cocoa revenues had been channelled to Ghana’s senior national football team — an assertion the board has firmly rejected.

In an official response, COCOBOD emphasised that its financial resources remain dedicated to its statutory mandate, which centres on supporting cocoa farmers and sustaining Ghana’s cocoa industry.

The board reaffirmed its ongoing commitments, including ensuring timely payments to farmers, supplying essential inputs, providing extension services, and investing in productivity and sector development initiatives.

COCOBOD further stressed that no funds allocated for farmer-related programmes have been redirected to the Black Stars.

The institution urged the public to treat the circulating claims with caution and to rely exclusively on its official communication channels for accurate information.

COCOBOD reiterated that the welfare of Ghana’s cocoa farmers remains its overriding priority, underscoring their critical role in the nation’s agricultural economy.
