The Eastern regional branch of the Ruling New Patriotic Party has formed a new vigilante group -Eagle Forces – despite mounting calls for the disbandment of such groups.
The Eastern regional 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Alhaji Umar Bodinga, explains that the group has been providing internal security for the party.
According to him, the group, made up of heavily-built men, will augment the effort of the insufficient Police personnel assigned to the party during political activities.
“I am telling you in Eastern region we have a vigilante group called Eagle forces, yes, they are our party members who provide internal security for the party. During our delegate conference, you saw them wearing black Lacoste with whitish inscription Eagle Forces at their back. During our political activities, they provide security.
You will see many cars parked while sometimes pick pockets too may take advantage so they provide security for all these. The police are insufficient to provide maximum security for the party,” he noted in an interview with a local radio station, Radio 1, in Koforidua.

Alhaji Bodinga who is lacing his boot to contest the regional chairmanship slot of the party further noted that members of the vigilante group are party members who are committed and trustworthy hence the party feels comfortable working with them.
The development comes on the back of the intensified efforts by the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) for the disbandment of Vigilante groups due to the threats their activities pose to the security of the country.
Many of such violent groups associated with the ruling party have wrecked havoc on some Ghanaians since the party won power in the 2016 elections.
Some of the already known groups of the party are; Invisible Forces and Delta Force.
