The Ashaiman Municipal Assembly recently moved the market women in the assembly from Mandela to Adjei kojo, under bridge.
The location which is an open space is also directly under the electricity high tension structures.
This movement was necessitated by the assembly due to the traffic caused by these market women at the old Market Location at Mandela, especially on their market days, Mondays and Thursdays.
The market women have vehemently rejected this movement, stating that it is most uncomfortable to sell food stuffs in the open at the new location.
Speaking to the market queen, Madam Faustina, popularly known as MAMA TINA she stated that, this inadequate shelter is indeed a problem.
“We have to pack our belongings for safe keeping especially when it rains”
“The environment is not appropriate and we sell in the open space, there is no covering which makes trade difficult”
Madam Tina further stated that, sales have drastically dwindled as a result of low patronage after three weeks of their movement to the place.
According to Madam Tina, they were comfortable when they were at the Mandela market and they fulfilled all their tax obligations as demanded by the assembly.
Hon. Albert Otchere; the Municipal Chief Executive of Ashaiman, in and a interview stated that the current market is temporal and the assembly is looking for a potable and permanent place for the market women.
