Ayawaso Zongo Chiefs Oppose Rerun of NDC Primaries, Back Baba Jamal’s Victory

The Ayawaso Zongo Chiefs, led by the Zabzama Chief, Seidu Hassan Fuseini, have appealed to authorities to abandon plans to rerun the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the Ayawaso East Constituency.

Their call follows allegations of vote buying during the primaries, which has sparked public debate and heightened tensions within the constituency.

In response to the claims, the Majority in Parliament has called for the annulment of the elections. Additionally, the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the alleged vote-buying incidents.

However, the Ayawaso Zongo Chiefs insist that the election was conducted fairly and that Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed emerged as the legitimate winner.

According to the chiefs, Baba Jamal’s victory reflects the will of the delegates, and they believe a rerun would be unnecessary and could create division within the constituency.

They congratulated Baba Jamal for his victory and prayed for Allah’s guidance and protection as he prepares for the next political stage.

The chiefs further appealed to party supporters and residents to rally behind both the winner and the loser, stressing that unity must remain the priority.

They emphasized that there should be no division among the people of Nima, noting that both candidates belong to the community and must be supported equally for the sake of peace and development.

The chiefs pledged their commitment to working with Baba Jamal and all stakeholders to pursue a common agenda, including uniting the people of Nima, improving sanitation in the area, and encouraging the youth to enlist in the various security services to secure a better future.
