A 30-year-old man is in the grips of the Aflao Police in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region for allegedly killing his mother and injuring three others including his 80-year-old father.
Johnny Ahiamadzi, last Friday at about 10pm reportedly went on a butchering spree at the Aflao suburb of Huimegah, where he inflicted deep machete wounds on the father in an apparent move to kill him.
A policeman together with an informant who rushed to the scene upon hearing of the incident was also not spared, as the law enforcement officer had his left wrist severely slashed by the suspect, who later fled the scene.
He was, however, arrested the next day after news broke that a woman, said to be his mother was also hacked to death.
The Volta Regional Police commander, ACP Nana Asomah Hinneh, who confirmed the bizarre incident to Starr news, said the suspect confessed to committing the act because his parents were witches.
“Police had information that, one Johnny Ahiamadzi was fighting his father, [so we] rushed to the house and met the man in a pool of blood, apparently Johnny has butchered the father and in an attempt to rescue the man, the suspect slashed the wrist of the constable and the one who came to report the case.”
“Later we heard a woman was butchered somewhere, we went and picked the woman and fortunately for us Johnny came back to the house and he was arrested. He confessed trying to kill the father because he was a wizard and whiles he was walking away, he met the woman who he claimed was also a witch, so he butchered her too,” the Police chief narrated.
He added that the injured persons are responding to treatment at the Aflao Government hospital while the body of the deceased has also been deposited at the morgue, as investigations continue into the incident.
The incident, which has left many Aflao residents in utter shock and dismay, comes barely a week after a trader was also murdered in her shop at Akatsi. No arrest has been made yet in that regard.
